Food allergies affect 1 in 100 people in the United States, including 4 out of every 100 children under the age of 18. 3.3 million Americans are allergic to peanuts or tree nuts, and combined, all food allergies cause 30,000 cases of anaphylaxis reactions, 2000 hospital visits, and 150 deaths annually. Peanut allergy alone affects approximately 2% of the population, and is the most common cause of death due to foods. Although the cause is still unknown, the prevalence of food allergies and associated anaphylaxis appears to be on the rise, with an 18% increase in food allergies from 1997 to 2007; the prevalence of peanut allergies alone doubled between 1997 and 2002. At present, there is no known cure for food allergies.
Our Quality Assurance Program:
We make all of our bakery products in a dedicated commercial kitchen on dedicated commercial equipment. We do not allow any outside products into our dedicated facility, and absolutely no peanut/tree nut products are allowed to enter the facility. We have certified with all of our suppliers that the products we use are peanut/tree nut free and/or that they follow strict FDA guidelines for ensuring that the products we use are free of any peanut/tree nut cross contamination.
What is the shelf life for Ooh La La! Bakery products?
Because Ooh La La! Bakery does not use preservatives in our products, it is best to consume our products within 3-4 days of purchase. Our products can always be frozen for up to a month.
Are Ooh La La! Bakery products Kosher?
At this time, Ooh La La! Bakery products are not certified Kosher, although we plan to pursue certification in the future.
Do Ooh La La! Bakery products contain wheat and soy?
Yes, all of our products contain wheat and soy. While our products normally contain milk and eggs, we can make our products milk and egg free upon request. All of our products are sesame and coconut free.
Can you make your products gluten free?
We do have wheat flour on the premises, so we are not a wheat/gluten free facility. While we can make our products gluten free, all requests for gluten free bakery goods need to be discussed on an individual basis to ensure that we can safely accommodate any specific gluten free requests.
Do you take payment by credit card?
At this time we only take payment by cash or check. We do plan to offer payment by credit card in the near future.
Do you ship your products to other destinations in the United States?
At this time our products are only available in the Greater Louisville area, but we hope to make our products available to other areas soon.
